Italian Civil Aviation delegation visits Tripoli's Maitigua Airport
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - A delegation of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority on Wednesday concluded a two-day inspection of Maitigua International Airport, in the eastern suburbs of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, to assess the progress of work and determine the degree of compliance of standards recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
On the sidelines of the visit, the Italian delegation met with the airport's director general, the acting director of the Standards Compliance Department, specialists from the technical departments of the Airports Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority, as well as officials from the services involved in securing and protecting the airport, a statement from the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority said.
It said that at the meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Maitigua airport, documents, programmes and operational procedures at the airport were presented. They also had information on the safety and security measures.
During the visit, the Italian delegation inspected some of the facilities, including the security fence, the entry points for people and vehicles for the airside and the customs area, in addition to the new departure hall and its equipment.
The statement said the visit was part of the coordination between the two governments to contribute to the resumption of flights between Libyan and Italian airports and also to lift the ban imposed on Libyan aircraft from entering European airspace.
Some airlines that had stopped flying to Libya in 2014 due to the deterioration of security in the wake of clashes between armed groups in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, have begun since the entry into office in March 2021 of the Government of National Unity.
