Kenya Parliament approves impeachment motion against Deputy President

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) -  Kenya's Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been impeached after a daylong session in Parliament which ended with 281 Members of Parliament voting to remove him from office.

One Member of Parliament abstained while 44 MPs voted against the impeachment motion.

The vote paves way for the Senate to begin preparations for the trial of the Deputy President on the grounds of gross violation of the constitution, money laundering and gross misconduct.

The Deputy President failed to convince the House of his innocence from the 11 charges levelled against him when he addressed the session for almost two hours.

The Deputy President said he was not the only one who was guilty of political misdemeanor and that even the President William Ruto was also on record for reprimanding state officers.
