Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Senior Libyan political leaders began a tripartite meeting in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday, aimed at reconciling points of view to overcome the impasse in the political process.
The meeting at the headquarters of the League of Arab States is being attended by the chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed l-Manfi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the chairman of the High Council of State, Mohamed Tekkala.
This dialogue is at the invitation of its Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
His spokesperson, Jamal Rushdi, explained that the invitation stems from the Arab League's genuine sense of responsibility towards Libya and an effort to end the long-running crisis.
An initiative launched last November by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, to bring together the five main institutions to overcome disagreements over the electoral laws and outstanding political issues, has reached an impasse due to the preconditions set by those invited.
