Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Khoury, has reiterated the Mission's commitment to promote the full inclusion of women in the political process and in peacebuilding.
It will also continue to support Libyan women and men in their efforts to achieve equitable representation of women in elected bodies at the local and national levels.
This commitment was renewed when Ms Khoury attended the second conference of the High National Electoral Commission on Women and Elections in Tripoli on Monday.
It was attended by some 60 women representatives and activists to discuss the legal challenges facing women's full participation in elections and make recommendations for overcoming them.
The activities of the second national conference on women and elections got under way on Monday under the theme, "Legal reforms supporting women in the field of candidacy for elections".
It is organised by the National Electoral Commission in cooperation with UN Women, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the UNSMIL.
