Sudan happy to see African assistance for overcoming current crisis
Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - Sudan on Saturday said it was satisfied by the way the African Union has been assisting Khartoum achieve stability and reach national consensus for the current political crisis in the country.
A senior AU official, Bankole Adeoye, Commissioner for Political, Peace and Security Affairs, started an official visit to the Sudan on Saturday where he met with Sudan's acting minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Al-Saddiq, to discuss efforts of the AU to help Sudan achieve security and stability.
Foreign Ministry’s General Director of African Affairs Ambassador Hassan Abdul-Salam said the acting minister of Foreign Affairs discussed with the AU visiting Commissioner the much appreciated efforts by the Union to help Sudanese stakeholders reach a national consensus for supporting the desired democratic transformation.
He said the minister also briefed the visiting AU official on Khartoum’s efforts to carry out an all-inclusive national dialogue for ending the current political crisis.
He said the minister commended the efforts of the AU and the Peace and Security Council in consolidating the social fabric and democracy in Africa via peaceful solutions based on what the African Union has declared under the slogan of "Silencing the Guns" and support for good governance and development on the continent.
He also said the Sudanese side expressed appreciation for the most recent statement issued by the Peace and Security Council on the situation in Sudan. Khartoum described the AU statement about the situation in the country as being balanced and objective.
The official news agency - SUNA - has meanwhile quoted the visiting AU official as explaining that his visit to Khartoum was aimed to listen to all parties and try to help in reaching solutions that secure peace, unity and stability in Sudan.
He was quoted as underlining that African issues should be resolved by Africans.
It is to be noted that a high-level delegation of the AU led by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Moussa Faki, the Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, Bankole, and the Director of the Chamber of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mohamed Elhassan Ould Lebat, are currently in Khartoum.
