Algerian civil aviation delegation in Tripoli ahead of resumption of Libyan flights
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - A delegation from the Algerian Civil Aviation Authority has visited Maitigua International Airport, in the eastern suburbs of Tripoli, to audit the security and operational procedures to ensure that they comply with international standards for the resumption of flights between Libya and Algeria.
The delegation's itinerary programme included a visit to airport facilities to inspect security and operational procedures at the airport, with the aim of improving and strengthening the level of services provided at the airport and ensuring flight safety, according to a statement published on Wednesday on the government platform, Hakomitna.
It said the delegation examined the state of readiness of security and safety systems, security equipment and inspection procedures, in addition to reviewing operational procedures to guarantee the efficiency and smooth running of the airport.
The Managing Director of Maitigua Airport said that this visit was part of the Libyan Airport Authority's efforts to raise the level of services and improve safety and security procedures, stressing the importance of strengthening international cooperation in this field to ensure the safety of passengers and flights.
For his part, the head of the Algerian delegation explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess the preparations and equipment at Maitigua airport, underlining the readiness of Algerian Civil Aviation to support joint efforts to strengthen security and safety at all Libyan airports.
In 2014, most foreign airlines stopped flying to Libya due to the deteriorating security situation in the wake of clashes between armed groups in Tripoli, during which the international airport was partially burnt down.
However, since the Government of National Unity took office in 2021, Libya has entered a phase of normalisation that has seen the return of international embassies and diplomatic missions, as well as the resumption of certain air links with Tunisia, Egypt, Malta, Italy and Turkey.
Royal Jordanian Airlines, whose delegation visited Tripoli at the beginning of July, is preparing to resume its flights from September.
