Kenya's Deputy President taken ill before taking witness stand in impeachment trial

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - Kenya's Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was taken ill on Thursday, shortly before taking the witness stand in his defence against his impeachment trial, his lawyer, Paul Muite, said.

The lawyer requested the Speaker to allow the Deputy President time to appear before the Senate, saying he had kept vigil at the House since the impeachment trial got underway on Wednesday.

The Speaker, Amason Kingi, ruled the impeachment trial process was timebound and the time allocated to the witness would runout.

Lawyer Muite said he would take at least an hour to meet with Gachagua's doctors and revert to the House.
