US congratulates Botswana on 58th independence anniversary

Washington, DC, US (PANA) - The United States has congratulated Botswana on its 58th independence anniversary which falls on Monday.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a message said as Botswana marks its National Day, “we remember the values and interests that bind our countries together: economic prosperity, environmental conservation, public health, and respect for rule of law and human rights”. 

Above all, he said, the United States and Botswana share an enduring faith in democracy. 

“As both of our nations prepare for national elections, we are reminded that democracy is not just a system of governance; it is a commitment to the values of freedom, equality, and justice that must be continually renewed. It is an opportunity for every citizen to have a say in the direction of their country,” Mr. Blinken said.

“As Botswana enters its 58th year of independence, we hope999 Botswana will join us in reaffirming our shared commitment to these democratic principles,” he added.
