Tunisia: One dies in terrorist attack on barracks

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - An attack on a military barrack in Tunisia on Saturday night by an armed group left one soldier dead and a civilian injured, authorities announced on Sunday.

An official statement said the attack on the barracks of Sbeitla, located in the region of Kasserine near the Algerian border, was carried out by yet unidentified terrorists.

The assailants, who were riding in several vehicles, fled after an exchange of fire with soldiers. Many of them are believed to have been injured.

Ten people suspected of being involved in the attack have been arrested by the security forces, the statement said.

Many troops have been killed in the area in multiple attacks carried out over the past few months by Jihadists from the brigade of Okba Ibnou Nafaa, which is linked to Al Qaida in Islamic Maghreb (AQMI).

The bloodiest attack, on 17 July during the Ramadan, claimed the lives for 15 soldiers at Jebel Chaambi, near the Algerian border.
