London Paralympics: African countries haul 39 medals, improve on medals standing

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - No fewer than seven African countries have continued to improve on the medals standing, wining 39 medals in six days of competition at the ongoing 2012 Paralympics in London, UK.

The medals are made up of 10 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze medals won so far by seven African countries, including Nigeria.

The seven are Nigeria (which won most of its medals from powerlifing), South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Namibia.

Nigeria led the pack with four gold, five silver and a bronze medal, followed by South Africa with two gold, four silver, four silver and four bronze medals, while Egypt has won two gold, and four bronze medals.

Tunisia has gold, two silver and a bronze medal; Morocco -- a gold and a bronze medal; Algeria -- a silver and five bronze medals and Namibia -- a silver.

On the overall medals table, Nigeria leads the other African countries, placing 10th as at Monday. South Africa is 20th, Egypt (27th), Tunisia (34th), Morocco (39th), Algeria (47th), Namibia (51st),
