Gambia: WAFAE to promote quality education in West Africa

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - The newly established West African Foundation for Advancement of Education ( WAFAE) is set to promote quality education in the five English-speaking member countries of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the foundation's chair, Morlai Richard Kelvin Kamara said in an interview with PANA here Friday.

WAFAE is a charitable educational body and its official launch is scheduled for 9 August 2014 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Gambia. It will operate in The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Ghana.

“Our main objective, among others, is to promote, protect, and preserve the rights, interest and welfare of students through the use of legal framework and other policy directives," said Kamara. "We intend to build capacities and human resource development through provision of quality, accessible and affordable education to all children as a right at all stages of their development.”

Kamara added that the foundation seeks to give support to students from its member countries through provision of scholarships and other incentives to needy students.
