2024 FIFA U-17 WWC: Nigeria emerge Group A winners

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (PANA) - Nigeria gabbed the 9 points at stake in Group A after thumbing hosts, Dominican Republic, 1-0 early Wednesday at the ongoing FIFA Under-17 Women's world cup.

The Nigerian win came just one minute to the end of the match (89th) through Shakirat Moshood.

The win is Nigeria's third in the group, following their 4-1 win over New Zealand on 16 October and the 4-0 victory over Ecuador on the 19th of October.

The wins gave them the maximum 9 points, the group top spot and a confirmed qualifications for the quarter-final.

From Group A, therefore, Nigeria and Ecuador, which grabbed 6 points from three matches, went through to the knockout stage.

Other qualifiers were Ecuador in Group A, Spain and United States of America (USA) in Group B and North Korea and England from Group C.

The other two African teams in the tournament, Kenya and Zambia, have since been eliminated from Groups C and D respectively, even with last group matches scheduled for later Wednesday.
